The entries in this section are for those other local organisations known to us which provide literacy services in the city. Most of the services offered by these organisations are complementary to those of ALPN.
ESOL
The local branch of English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) provides services to those who have come to live in Palmerston North from other countries, either as visitors or immigrants.

ESOL caters for new immigrants who need to learn English as a second language rather than immigrants who can speak English reasonably fluently. Spport social groups at various levels of competence are offered in addition to courses of tuition. If you have friends or neighbours in need please contact the firendly staff.
Open Learning Centre
The Open Learning Centre (Te Whare Akonga) provides a range of services to adult New Zealanders including literacy and numeracy.

This organisation provides special courses on, among other things, the NZ Driving Licence theory, women's writing, computer skills.
Prisoner Aid & Rehabilitation Society
This society (PARS) works to reduce offending by providing support and re-integration services to prisoners and their families/whanau. The services, including literacy and numeracy tuition, which they offer are contracted out to other organisations which actually provide them direct to the individuals concerned.

SPELADD
This organisation specialises in assessing and teaching for both children and adults with specific learning problems - including Attention Deficit Disorder.
