The answers to each of the sub-question are -

  1. The apostrophe discussion should bring out the following points -
    1. Israel's - possessive apostrophe before "s" on a singular noun.
    2. its - no apostrophe on possessive determiners (its, yours, etc).
    3. communes' - possessive apostrophe after "s" on a regular plural noun.
    4. communes - no apostrophes on plurals.
