On a cold, cold Sunday the first round of the 2007 Winter Series fired into life. Attracting 106 car the drivers were faced with an earlier than normal start to get through the days busy programme. The normal format of three races with one practise had grown with the addition of a half hour race for the Interclub Trophy at the end of the day. In addition to the race days activities MotorSport Manawatu had invited local schools to collect the gate takings of each of the fours rounds. Kimbolton and Manchester St Schools replied in sufficient time to accepts the offer. Starting at 7am the teams of four took turns to collect the gate until 2pm. Kimbolton School were fundraising for a trip to Turangi in November which was expected to cost $250 per person for the 5 day camp. At the end of the day the school had raised over $1000 thanks to the crews and spectators that braved the coldest day at Manfeild for some years. Heidi xxx of Kimbolton School says it was worth every minute of the freezing hands, chilled face and numb feet to raise funds for the camp and thanked the Car Club on behalf of the Parents and senior children. "From the clubs view we are rapted at the great response to this initiviate" Julian yyy, MotorSport Manager of the club says. "We ha thought that the school may raise around $400 so are very happy that we have been able to exceed that well and truly for Kimbolton School. It wasn't a very nice day for it!"
