A sustainable Environment

By being less wasteful with the energy we use in our homes, we do more than lower our power bills; we burn less fossil fuel, helping address climate change and other environmental issues.

We can all make a contribution to making New Zealand a truly sustainable nation, and many of the things you can do will improve your lifestyle as well as protect our environment.

The information in this publication has been put together by the Department of Building and Housing, Consumer, EECA and the Electricity Commission as part of the Government's work toward sustainability.

The Government is providing $72.4 million over the next 4 years to help Kiwi families live in warm, dry, healthy homes that are energy-efficient and better for the environment.

This builds on existing Government programmes such as the home insulation and clean heating retrofit programmes, the solar water heating programme and the review of the Building Code.
