Wedding outfits

Now is the time to be seriously looking for those special outfits for summer weddings - especially if you are lucky enough to be the mother of the bride or groom. The shops are full of new clothes so the best choices are now available, and getting organized early is the surest way to beat the stress!

Before hitting the shops there are a few questions to ask yourself, which will simplify the process. First, how formal is the wedding? Is it in a garden or church? Will it be sit-down at a winery and/or dancing? This will make a difference to the level of dress and the fabrics you choose.

Next, consider colour. What suits you best? If you are not sure, have a personal colour consultation to give you confidence and enable you to be more adventurous (instead of too safe!). This will save you time and help narrow down your best choices, and those that will work with the rest of the wedding party and the environment.

Now to your body shape and what styles suit you best. As the stage of life when you are likely to be mother of the bride or groom, your shape has probably changed. Again, if you are not sure, have a personal style consultation to help you work out which of the current styles look best on you.

Finally, think very carefully about your personal style and how to integrate this into your outfit. Do you like lace? Patterns? Plain but interesting fabrics? Work with your personality and preferences, so you feel like yourself! Try to see past those dated or conventional ideas about what "mothers of" should wear. Do not be dictated to by the bride or well meaning family or friends (let them worry about themselves), and don't feel you have to compete with other "mothers of". Instead, take this opportunity to update your overall look (including hair and make-up) by drawing on the right professional advice, and pull it all together with the right accessories and shoes. If you have confidence in yourself and the way you look, you will feel fantastic and be free to enjoy the occasion.
