The list of links to other internet web sites given here contains only those we have found of particular use for teaching adult speakers of English. As further helpful sites are found, they will be added in due course.
- BBC - there is an extensive set of on-line facilities available from the BBC Learning English web site. Material suitable for all levels is readily available from spelling to Shakespeare! It is pertinent to point out here that these resources are aimed at non-native speakers.
- Spelling Resources - this web-site has a wide range of interactive (tests and hangman games) and printable resources all to do with spelling in English.
- Macmillan Education - this web site is a mine of educational resources for all ages and kinds of English learners from one of the premier English educational publishing houses. Well worth a stop!
- "Angelfire" - this is a privately run web site which offers a wide range of, for example, tests, a news letter etc. It offers a little fun - mainly useful when on-line - but do watch out for American spelling! Some of the document mark-up is incorrect too, so you might find occasional bursts of " " sprinkled around.
- Churchill House - this organisation specialises in teaching English and providing lessons, plans and resources for teachers. Material may be downloaded or used interactively! The link given here is to an on-line English test!
- Times On-line - the Times newspaper has an on-line edition. An excellent source of well-written English - to browse for interest or to use in illustrating lesson material.
- Hints and Tips - no lemons - an interesting index document to help solve some of the most common spelling, grammar and language questions.
- Oxford Advanced Learners' Dictionary - Oxford University Press has produced a version of its Advanced Learners' Dictionary on-line. While there are words you might come across which are not contained in this dictionary (syzygy is one which comes to mind) most needs are met very well. The web site is also a teaching resource containing quizzes, crossword puzzles, etc all aimed at the advanced learner.
